Commission Me

Your own animal portrait

If you are looking to commission an animal portrait you’re in the right place! Sally has painted hundreds of pet portraits, and you can see the happy owners’ reviews in the pet galleries. Capturing the animal’s energy and character in the eyes is her key focus, and she will happily discuss colours and styles to create an animal portrait totally tailored to you.

Choose which style you like

Loose contemporary watercolour

In the contemporary style the eyes and features are still in detail but the overall painting is looser, expressive, and has more energy. These portraits are usually painted in watercolour with inks, and recently Sally has started offering them on canvas in acrylics. This style is a lower price than the highly detailed portraits as it takes less time – it is a very popular option. More examples are in the Contemporary Pet Gallery.

Highly detailed portrait

Sally’s Scientific Illustration background is evident in the traditional pet portrait detailed style. It is accurate and realistic, painted in watercolour or pastel, and there is the option to choose monotone Graphite (pencil with charcoal). More examples are in the Traditional Pet Gallery.

The easy guide to ordering an animal portrait

  1. See the Contemporary Gallery and Traditional Gallery for many more examples of previous commissions.

  2. It is essential to have some good photos of your animal. Please see the tips on taking the best photos. The better the photo, the better the portrait!

  3. Choose what size portrait you would like. Waiting times vary, ranging from 1 – 3 months, according to workload which is mostly dependent on the time of year, but Sally can sometimes meet shorter deadlines, so it is always worth asking.
  4. On placing your order you may pay in full, or as a 50% deposit, online by direct transfer, or with a debit/credit card, via Stripe. Once your photos and payment have been received you will have a slot reserved on the waiting list and a confirmed completion date. When Sally starts working on the portrait she will keep you informed throughout, and will place the finished piece online for you to check. The painting will be despatched to you when you are completely happy with it.

Gift Vouchers

If you have run out of time you could always purchase a gift voucher to give as an alternative present. This works really well if you do not have a photo of the animal, and the recipient can then arrange for the portrait to be done when they are ready. Gift Vouchers are available in my shop. For more information please feel free to contact me.
