Online Courses Available to Book

Choose an online art course

For over a year Sally has been recording art tutorials as 6 – 7 week courses. All 8 courses are now available here in one place for you to browse through, and choose to do as a fun project.

Further down the page is a menu of each course’s paintings, with a link through to the booking page.

These courses are available to book for children aged 10 and above, and also adults who want to push themselves to try something new. They are aimed at those who enjoy art and nature, and keen students who wish to explore different art media, including ink, watercolour, charcoal, chalk, pastels, and acrylics.

The pre-recorded tutorials range from 50 – 70 mins, and the subjects are with nature at their core. This pre-recorded format means you can relax into each tutorial, pausing it when you need a break or wish to really take your time. Using an easy to follow step-by-step format in each session, Sally first teaches you how to draw your subject, taking you on a journey all the way through to adding final details to really make your masterpiece zing!

Support and Live Feedback

Sally offers full support along your arty journey, including one-to-one online zoom feedback sessions, to talk about your experience and to answer any questions you may have.

Spaces are limited, due to the live aspect of these courses.

Art Materials

At home you already need to have some watercolours, acrylics, markers/felt tips and soft pastels.

The price of each course includes an art pack with extra materials specific to the course (for UK residents only).

Along the way we experience the stillness of Wadi Rum’s desert landscape before hopping off to a rainforest to drink in the incredible beauty and sounds of so many birds and animals. We have an excursion to Japan to create some Manga and see their famous cherry blossom, and dart off to the heat of Africa to paint elephants playing at a waterhole.

Here are the tutorials from the second leg of our Round the World Trip, as the ‘Early Spring 2021 Course’.

Each week we continue to drop in on a different exotic country to take in the breath-taking views and focus on the diversity of nature.

We begin our travels by studying the intense gaze of a Canadian wolf. In the dusty heat of an African safari we spot an unusually coloured funky zebra, before jetting over to China to find a rare Manga Red Panda with Buddhist mandalas. Then it’s over to the humidity of South America to survey the iridescent beauty of the blue Morpho butterfly. We reward ourselves after all this travelling with some relaxation beside the turquoise waters on the idyllic white beaches of the Cook Islands, before finishing our journey in the Galapagos where we meet a giant tortoise.

Our Third Round the World Trip (Late Spring 2021)

Here are the tutorials from the third leg of our Round the World Trip, as the ‘Late Spring 2021 Course’.

We get off to a great start in South America, using charcoal and a dark chocolate pencil (yes really!) to draw a mummy and baby sloth hugging up a tree, looking so content. Then we whip out the watercolours to paint a glorious hummingbird in flight, before donning our scuba gear and diving deep into the ocean to find glowing jellyfish which we capture in pastels. Then it’s off to Mexico to paint the incredible colours of the Scarlet Macaw in acrylics – they are like flying rainbows! In China we create an Anime style Chinese Dragon before finishing our trip in India where we go on safari to paint a magnificent tiger in watercolour and ink.

This is a 6 week course for £65, with the course-specific art pack included, as well as Zoom one-to-one feedback chats with Sally.

Our first stop is in Borneo where we are drawing a cute Orangutan in carbon pencil and a vibrant orange watercolour pencil, before we dive underwater with our watercolours to paint a fascinating colour-changing Octopus. Then it’s off to Yellowstone National Park to take in the breathtaking scene of a sunset over a steaming Geyser which we recreate in pastels. While in this colourful mood we paint a colourful owl in bright acrylics, before flying over to Japan to draw a Kitsune Fox in Manga style. After all this excitement we head back nearer home to paint a wonderful shaggy Highland Cow in watercolours and ink.

This is a 6 week course for £65, with the course-specific art pack included, as well as Zoom one-to-one feedback chats with Sally.

Our Fifth Round the World Trip (Autumn 2021)

Here are the tutorials from the fifth leg of our Round the World Trip, as the ‘Autumn 2021 Course’.

Starting our expedition on UK shores we will draw a cute baby seal with sepia-tinted charcoal and chalk pencils. Then we zip across the globe to India to paint the intense colours of a glorious peacock, using watercolours, Brusho, and wax resist sticks – Brusho is SO much fun! For our landscape scene we fly to beautiful Slovenia, to draw a still, autumnal sunrise over the stunning Lake Bled, before heading back into the heat, this time in Africa, to paint an elegant giraffe in acrylics. Our eastern Manga subject will be Kyo, a boy who transforms into a cat, and we finish up in New Zealand to have lots of fun with joyful dolphins in the wild, using Brusho and watercolours.

This is a 6 week course for £65, with the course-specific art pack included, as well as Zoom one-to-one feedback chats with Sally.

The British Summer *sigh*! On this course we paint some of the highlights of our long, balmy summer days, starting with a trip to the beach to discover what treasures we can find in the rock pools. As we also love animals we draw some Manga animal characters, a stunning chalk lion on black, and learn how to create a pet portrait in pastels.

“Hannah is very happy with her artwork, she’s enjoying using the different art materials. It’s really good that’s she’s learning how to use them properly.”

“Thank you for teaching the art tutorials, they are the highlight of my lockdown! Every technique I have learned has been super useful and I have used each and every one of them!

I love your courses and I think you are the nicest teacher to have possibly taught the courses. It’s the encouraging things you say that always make you feel amazing about what you have done. Anyone in your art class is incredibly lucky.”

“She is very happy to do the course with you. It is very nice to see her excited for something in this very difficult time, especially for her age. The children are the main concern for me nowadays. So, seeing them coping well really makes my days.

Thanks a lot for this!! You maybe don’t realise that, but this is a huge help for us.”

“Thank you so so much to Sally for the most amazing art sessions. Your creations and supporting videos really inspire the kids, and give them a range of ideas and techniques for future artwork.

Your 1:1 follow-up sessions are enjoyable, give the kids confidence, and really helpful tips and advice. We could not recommend Sally’s courses more highly for budding artists!”

“Thanks for your support Sally. She is definitely more confident with her artwork, she is taking her time, not putting so much pressure on herself and we’ve had no tears which is great!

It’s lovely to see her art growing and improving and the happiness it brings her.”

“My daughter is really enjoying the course, it has really inspired her to do a lot more drawing and art and this is proving really good for her wellbeing.”

“She has always liked art but I hadn’t really seen her develop as she didn’t know about different techniques. It’s been wonderful to see her developing and enjoying learning different techniques from you. It’s great that she gets to use different mediums – even blackberries. She looks so relaxed too when doing the art and I think that’s been lovely too in these slightly strange times!”

“You are, as I’m sure you’ve heard over and over, a very talented artist and very talented teacher – PARTICULARLY as this is all on line!!! Lucy’s really loving it still and her colourful hedgehog is super!!”

“Thank you so much Josh is very much enjoying his art and it is a great outlet in these strange times. All credit to you Sally he loves the way you teach the classes and you make it so easy to follow.”

“Abi is really enjoying the art and immediately said ‘yes’ when I asked her if she’d like to do the Autumn course. She is learning so much and it’s great to see her confidence in her artwork learning.”

“I really enjoyed doing this one. I love that with nature and mushrooms, they are not perfect so if you make it a slightly different shape it doesn’t matter! I really liked using the red pencil because I have never used a water one before and it was very satisfying! Of course I also loved doing the splatter which is always fun and creates a great effect!”

“With coffee and blackberry juice, this is awesome work. Thanks @sally_animal_artist you’re an amazing teacher. It’s such a lovely course we love it.”
